COMMUNITY PARTNERS
TOGETHER, WE WILL BUILD A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR OSSINING
COMMUNITY PARTNERS THAT CARE
We know the importance of making sure that schools, parents, teens, and the community at large are working together to support young people. We work with all kinds of organizations throughout Ossining to create and connect young people to information, resources, clubs, and activities that enable them to gain independence, experience academic and personal growth, and resist using alcohol and drugs.
OCTC follows a national model called the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), which promotes positive youth development. We believe in providing young people with opportunities, skills, and recognition to promote bonding with family, school, and their community, in turn motivating them to adopt healthy behaviors.
WHAT ARE RISK & PROTECTIVE FACTORS?
Children are influenced by their community, school, family, and friends. To be effective, we have to work together to address risk and protective factors. In a nutshell, community or individual risk factors are characteristics that increase the likelihood of a negative outcome, for example, weak connection to school is a risk factor for substance use. Protective factors decrease the likelihood of a negative outcome; family rules about drinking are a protective factor for substance use.
OCTC works to address risk and protective factors that have been shown to impact underage substance use.
